Description
This German Theatre is from the later 19th century. The source is unknown but it is a grand theatre typical of the German Theatres of the time known as 'Papiertheater'. Larger and more elaborate than the English toy theatre of the time, the dramatic fare was taken from opera, legend and the darker fairy tales. This one has a scene and characters from the play 'Die Puppenfee' The Doll Fairy published by J.F. Schreiber c.1890. It is about an enchanted toy shop when at the appearance of the fairy, the dolls and toys come to life.
The wooden theatre is approx 60cm high, 58cm wide and 46cm deep.
It is only available to purchase and picked up from the shop.
