A finely crafted wooden model theatre handmade in France exclusively for Benjamin Pollock’s Toyshop. This elegant reinterpretation of the original Pollock’s play “Sleeping Beauty” features movable scenes and characters, inviting you to bring the magic of the Victorian pantomime to your home in miniature. The Sleeping Beauty Pollock’s Toy Theatre has been re-imagined by Lorenzo Gabini using the original Victorian Pollock’s archive. Handmade in paper and wood by artisanal maker Helen Bourch of Figuart and featured in The Sleeping Beauty window in Covent Garden by toy stylist and photographic artist Dolly Treasures.

The Pollocks ‘Reverie’ Theatre features a joyous version of Pollock’s most elaborate play, “Sleeping Beauty in the Wood,” originally designed by draughtsman James Tofts in the late Victorian period. This model honours the historic craftsmanship and vivid colourings that the original plays published by Mr Pollock (1856 – 1937) are known for. (References: ‘A Penny Plain, Twopence Coloured by A. E. Wilson 1932 & ‘Toy Theatres of the World’ Peter Baldwin 1992). Notably, the play was one selected by the Russian impresario Diahilev and the English writer & poet Sacheverell Sitwell as inspiration for ‘The Triumph of Neptune’ in 1926, highlighting its cultural significance. Performed by The Ballet Russes at The Lyceum, London, the production is the only recorded instance of a live stage performance to be adapted from the miniature plays of the toy theatre.
